Treon launches Industrial Node for condition monitoring on a massive scale

Treon Industrial Node, a wireless monitoring device for rotating machinery co-developed by Treon and Sulzer, is now commercially available.

“We are thrilled to have worked in close cooperation with an industry leader to design the Treon Industrial Node. Sulzer’s long heritage and expertise in pumping solutions ensures that the product can stand up to the rigors of everyday use in industrial conditions,” Joni Korppi, CEO of Treon, says. “It’s a key enabler for Sulzer Sense condition monitoring system and now it’s available for the rest of the industry.”

“The device we codesigned with Treon is an important step in our digital journey. Combined with Sulzer’s extensive online services and our deep knowledge of industrial processes, the Sulzer Sense wireless IoT condition monitoring system ─ as we call it in our portfolio ─ allows our customers to monitor any equipment 24/7, not just process-critical machinery,” Sami Saarenvalta, Development Manager at Sulzer Pumps Finland Oy, points out. “The measured data enables predictive maintenance and helps to avoid sudden equipment failure and eventual downtime.”

Treon Industrial Node is a battery-operated condition monitoring device that measures tri-axial vibration and surface temperature of rotating equipment, such as pumps, motors and agitators. The Node operates in a wireless mesh network making it easy and cost-efficient to deploy on a large scale or to retrofit existing equipment with it.

Abnormal vibrations or high temperatures caused by component imbalance, misalignment, wear or improper use of equipment are early indicators of machine failure. Service personnel can identify these irregularities through data gathered and calculated by the Node without the need for expensive wired equipment or going from machine to machine to gather data with handheld devices.

Korppi adds that because the data is routed automatically to cloud via a Gateway, it’s always available for review and further analysis. “And because the wireless mesh network can be set up to accommodate anything from a few to thousands of sensors, the Treon Industrial Node enables predictive maintenance in massive scale. With any cloud.”

Treon will make the product available to solution providers, system integrators, service companies and distributors. In cooperation with its partners, Treon can also provide customers with a complete condition monitoring solution that includes cloud service, data storage and user interface.
